Live from Baltimore

I'd just about given up on blogging altogether, but here I am my second day in Baltimore, and I've been inspired to blog. Well not so much inspired but I figured it'd be a good way to occupy my time while I still get acquainted with the city. I'm eager to get to know Baltimore and the folks here and I'm sure that once classes begin next week, I'll be able to do so very easily. Until then in order to combat boredom I've decided to post some artwork. I plan on using these four images in a presentation I will be making on monday, as an introduction to my professors and classmates. It'll be one of those situations where I feel like I'm being judged, standing naked in a room of people that I don't know. Which, if you know me, really isn't that big of a deal since I enjoy taking my clothes off in front of people that I don't know. (I'm not really going to take my clothes off in front of these people. Not yet at least)

Even Legends Die

This week marked the passing of one of the most influential artists in sci-fi/fantasy art. One of my biggest heroes Jean Giraud (Moebius) died at the age of 73. A prolific illustrator, his contributions to art and film are counted among many as inspiring and legendary.
His work utilizes magnificent linear form with lush palettes and an endless imagination that can be beautiful, haunting and mind-bending.

Never earning his deserved recognition here in America, Moebius created concept art for such well known films as Alien, Tron, Willow and Masters of the Universe. He and Alejandro Jodorowsky collaborated on the sci-fi comic Incal, and a never-realized film adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune", which was to feature Salvador Dali as Shaddam Corrino IV, and a soundtrack produced by Pink Floyd. The project eventually went on to become the David Lynch film we all know and love today.

Apollo & Midnighter

My second favorite gay comic book couple, after Henry Rollins & Glenn Danzig, is definitely Apollo & Midnighter. Originally from Wildstorm's "Stormwatch"they would later go onto become founding members of "The Authority". Essentially these two are a much hotter, cooler, gayer version of Batman and Superman. Apollo derives his power from the sun, granting him super strength, flight, speed, and all manner of sun based powers. He's light hearted and optimistic. While Midnighter is dark and brooding, he has the ability to foresee every possible outcome to any combat situation. He also seems to have superhuman speed, and strength.
I've always appreciated the non-stereotypical portrayal of them over the years. They've managed to warm my gay heart, and never seemed to slip into lame, prime-time sitcom, parodies of what America thinks gay people act like. Plus for all of us faggy, fanboy, fetishists, they bring the leather and spandex!

Toyz in the Attic

A trip home to mom and dads is always a chance to prance down memory lane. Sometimes I like to read all the notes my friends and I sent back and forth to each other in junior high, and in high school, and in college, then I realize this is just what we did before text messaging. And sometimes I like to play with all my old toys that my parents keep threatening to throw away. Well now I can put them on the internet will they will live FOREVER.

A Very Special X-Mas Treat

Guest blogger D-bra comes all the way from the western shores of this great land, to bring you a tale of the Krampus:

Let me tell all you assholes a little somethin' somethin' bout Christmas that you might not have known.  This has nothing to do with the screaming infant Jesus, or Rudolph, or even that morbidly obese pedophile Santa Claus.  It is about the true hero of Christmas, the Krampus!  Krampus is all evil looking and goat-like and shit.  He's tall and gangly and has food all up in his beard.  His breath is horrendous and he has a very threatening member that he hardly bothers to conceal.  He rides shot-gun with Santa Claus in the sleigh at the beginning of December and sniffs out the bad kids - you know, the ones who eat boogers and beat up gay kids.  When he finds a filthy little brat, he puts the kid in his stinky sack and takes the kid back to his lair to sodomize the bad out.  The only way the Krampus can be dissuaded is by getting drunk, so make sure you have some Schnapps on hand if you are an asshole.  When they say that bad kids get coal in their stockings on Christmas, that is just a euphemism for the coal black cock of the Krampus rammed up a kid's stocking-like brown hole!
